How to Manage and Migrate Plesk Servers

Migrating to a new server can feel overwhelming—but with EPY HOST and Plesk’s powerful migration tools, it’s seamless and efficient. This guide will walk you through a complete step-by-step process using Plesk’s Migration and Transfer Manager (MTM) and Migration and Transfer Agent (MTA) tools.

What You'll Learn

Preparation Phase

a. Install the Migration and Transfer Manager (MTM) on the Destination Server

To begin, log in to the destination server's Plesk panel.

• Navigate to: Tools & Settings → Updates and Upgrades

• Click on "Add/Remove Components".

• Locate and select "Parallels Panel Migration and Transfer Manager".

• Proceed with the installation by clicking Continue.

Once installed, MTM will be accessible directly via Tools & Settings on the destination server's Plesk dashboard.

b. Download and Install the Migration and Transfer Agent (MTA) on the Source Server

• From the destination server, open the newly installed MTM via Tools & Settings.

• Click “Download Migration and Transfer Agent” to save the MTA installer.

• Establish a remote desktop connection to the source server.

• Transfer the downloaded MTA installer to the source server and run the installation.

At this point, both tools are set up and ready for the migration process.

Migration Process

a. Initiate the Migration

• On the destination server, go to: Tools & Settings → Migration & Transfer Manager

• Click “Start New Migration”.

b. Source Server Configuration

• Enter the IP address of the source server.

• Provide the Administrator password to authenticate the connection.

• Choose to migrate reseller accounts along with all associated data (websites, databases, mail, etc.).

• Click Next to proceed.

c. Select Accounts for Migration

• Choose the specific reseller account(s) you wish to migrate.

• Click Next.

d. Map IP Addresses

• During the migration setup, Plesk will prompt you to map the IP addresses used on the source server to those available on the destination server.

• Ensure each source IP is correctly mapped to a valid destination IP.

• Click Next to begin the migration.

Plesk will now start transferring the selected accounts and data.

Handling Migration Issues

The MTM performs a pre-check before initiating the data transfer. This ensures a smooth migration by identifying potential issues such as:

• Missing components

• Version mismatches

• Configuration conflicts

If issues are detected:

• Select the account you intend to migrate and click Next.

• The Transfer Re-check window will display any warnings and list required components or configurations.

• Install the missing components as suggested to proceed without errors.
